Principles for Trusted Elections
Governor George Allen; Whitney Houston, Neil Diamond, and Billy Joel
Across this country, candidates (and you) have the opportunity to strengthen the foundation of our democracy by leading with integrity and respect.
The Principles for Trusted Elections is asking candidates (and citizens) in every state to join former Virginia Governor George Allen in signing and promoting the Principles for Trusted Elections pledge.
This nonpartisan commitment affirms five shared values that define trustworthy elections:
honesty in process
nonviolence in campaigns
secure voting
responsible oversight
respect for certified outcomes.
Governor Allen’s message reminds us that democracy depends on integrity, civility, and respect for the will of the people – principles that unite us across parties, states, and perspectives.
Call it the Golden Rule or think about it as good sportsmanship – leaders and citizens alike should be respectful of the basic democratic norms that protect the will of the voter and expression of thought. It’s the essence of what has made our United States…so very exceptional in the world.
These are challenging times for our nation, and public life has often felt tense and divided. But candidates who lead with honesty and respect can help restore faith in the process and set an example of ethical leadership that transcends partisan lines.
By signing and promoting the Principles for Trusted Elections, you help reaffirm America’s legacy of self-governance and integrity – not just for this election, but for generations to come as we approach the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence.
I signed the pledge in honor of my granddaughter, Sloane Margaret Taylor:
